(Bloomington, Indiana): Clarion posted a 1-2 record at the Indiana Duals on Sunday, held at University Gym in Bloomington, Indiana.
The Golden Eagles defeated Gardner-Webb 37-4, lost a close 21-18 decision to American University and lost to #20 ranked Indiana 49-0.
Clarion won the first 9 bouts in defeating Gardner-Webb 37-4.
#20 ranked Jay Ivanco pinned Cortney Roberts at 4:18 at 125 and co-captain Hadley Harrison pinned Justin Guthrie at 3:14 at 157.
Freshman Zachary Oberlander notched a 15-0 technical fall over Matt Featherston at 133 and co-captain Sal Lascari (141), along with Scott Joseph (174) won with major decisions.
Lascari won 19-9 over Rob Tate and Joseph notched a 13-5 win over Dave Sweeney.
Decisions were also recorded by Greg Lewis at 149, Dominic Ross at 165, Clint Podish at 184 and Jamie Luckett at 197.
In Clarion's 21-18 loss to American, the Golden Eagles had four impressive wins.
Ivanco won a 3-0 decision at 125 over Thomas Williams, and Sal Lascari turned momentum towards Clarion with a pin at 6:59 over Matt Mariacher. Lascari was behind 5-4 in the final seconds, but had Mariacher on his back and registered a fall with only 1 second remaining to put Clarion in front 9-3.
Hadley Harrison went overtime against Patrick Graham, but posted the bout winning takedown with 9 seconds left in overtime in winning 3-1 at 157.
American's #2 rated Mike Cannon pinned Scott Joseph at 174 to put American in the lead 15-12, but the Eagles roared back with Clint Podish.
Podish took Anthony Fuschino to the mat, used a half nelson and pinned Fuschino at 1:29 to vault the underdog Eagles to an 18-15 lead.
Jamie Luckett led his match 6-5 in the third, but lost 8-6 to Andrew Sibler at 197 to tie the team score 18-18.
American heavyweight Quinten Pruett decisioned Roman Husam 4-2 to give AU the win.
Against Indiana the Hoosiers won 49-0, winning all ten matches while notching 6 falls against the Eagles.
CLARION NOTES: Ivanco, Lascari, Harrison and Podish were all 2-1 on the day ... Clarion is now 5-9 in dual meets this season.... 6 of those losses were to nationally ranked teams... Clarion returns to Tippin Gym next Saturday when the Eagles host Millersville and Duquesne at 3pm and then West Virginia at 7pm.
