CLARION FALLS TO NO. 4 CAL

Jan. 21, 2009

Box Score

CLARION - Katrina Greer scored 19 points to move into a tie for sixth place in school history in scoring, but it wasn't enough to offset a monster game from California's Brooque Williams that helped the No. 4 Vulcans to a 102-72 win over the Golden Eagles Wednesday night at Tippin Gym.

Greer tied former teammate Jessica Albanese with 1,244 career tallies, and Sara Pratt scored her 500th career points and finished with a double-double (12 points, 10 rebounds) and four blocked shots for Clarion. But Williams scored 30 points, grabbed 18 rebounds, dished out six assists and had five steals for California (14-2 overall, 3-0 PSAC-West).

Clarion, which played hard the entire game, trailed by just five with 10:30 to play in the first half, but Cal (14-2 overall, 3-0 PSAC-West) used a 28-7 run to build a 28-point lead late in the half. The Golden Eagles (5-10, 0-3), though, fought back ending the half on a 10-0 run to trail by 18, 51-33, at halftime.

A pair of 3-pointers at the start of the second half helped Clarion cut the deficit to 14, 53-39, a minute into the half. But Cal answered with a 32-12 run that put the game away.

Bethany Koch chipped in nine points, three steals and three rebounds for Clarion.

Kayla Smith added 17 points, seven rebounds for Cal, Lindsay Johnson had 16 points and eight boards, Shaquetta Mance had 16 points, five rebounds and six assists and Crystal Andrews had 14 points, seven assists and four steals.

Clarion returns to action at 1 p.m. Saturday at Slippery Rock.
