CLARION FALLS AT SLIPPERY ROCK

SLIPPERY ROCK - A 16-0 Slippery Rock run sandwiched around halftime helped The Rock to an 82-58 win over visiting Clarion in PSAC-West men's basketball action Saturday afternoon at Slippery Rock's Morrow Field House.

Clarion (9-7 overall, 0-4 PSAC-West) trailed by four, 40-36, late in the first half before Slippery Rock (10-6, 2-2) ended the half on a 4-0 spurt to take a 44-36 lead. The Rock then started the second half with a 12-0 run to build an 18-point lead that grew to as many as 28.

Cold shooting hurt Clarion with the Golden Eagles hitting just 35.5 percent of their shots in the game including 8 of 28 (28.6 percent) in the second. Slippery Rock, on the other hand, hit 49.1 percent of its shots. Slippery Rock also outrebounded Clarion 44-33.

Shameel Carty had 14 points and eight rebounds to lead Clarion, while Paul McQueen added 13 points and Damon Gross 10.

Denell Stephens led Slippery Rock with 23 points and eight rebounds, Michael Evans, Jr., added 15 points and five boards, Maurice Douglas had 14 points and Maron Brown 10 to go with eight boards. Kyle Camper set up the offense with 11 assists.

Clarion returns to action at 8 p.m. Monday when it hosts Urbana in a non-conference game.
