CLARION LOSES 22-12 TO HUSKIES

Jan. 30, 2009

(CLARION, PA.): The Golden Eagles got wins from Sal Lascari, Scott Joseph, Clint Podish and Roman Husam but it wasn't enough, as Bloomsburg defeated Clarion tonight in NCAA Division I Wrestling 22-12.

Held at W.S. Tippin Gymnasium, Clarion dropped to 7-11 overall and 0-3 in the Eastern Wrestling League, while Bloomsburg is now 6-6 overall and 1-2 in the EWL.

Husam, Clarion's heavyweight, got the Eagles off to a 3-0 lead when he defeated Zac Walsh 3-2. Husam's first period takedown and third period escape was the difference.

The Huskies came back to tie when Ian Moser upset Clarion's #20 Jay Ivanco 7-3 at 125. Moser was ahead 4-3 late in the match when Ivanco went for a throw and was taken down.

Bloom's Jason Guffy posted a 6-0 decision against Cameron Moran at 133, before Sal Lascari tied the team score 6-6 when he notched a 6-4 decision over Rick Donald at 141.

Lascari led 4-2 after the first period, but a Donald reversal tied the bout 4-4 heading to the third. Lascari reversed back and rode Donald out for a 6-4 win.

Bloomsburg then won three straight bouts to take a 19-6 lead. The run started when George Hickman decisioned Greg Lewis 5-2 at 149. Then #10 ranked Matt Moley pinned Hadley Harrison at 4:11 in the 157-pound bout, and was finished when Rickey Schmelyun scored an 11-3 major decision over Dominic Ross at 165.

Clarion's Scott Joseph notched a 3-2 upset win over Nate Graham at 174. Joseph used a quick duck under takedown in the second period to lead 2-1. Tied 2-2 in the third, Joseph escaped and won 3-2. The win avenged an earlier 6-3 loss against Graham in the PSAC finals.

Clint Podish then posted a 5-3 win over Brian Shaw. A first period takedown and a third period escape had Podish ahead 3-1 in the third with riding time. Shaw scored a takedown, but it was too late as Podish's escape and riding time made him a 5-3 winner.

Bloom's Jesse Hasseman won 3-1 over Jamie Luckett at 197 to finish the dual.

CLARION NOTES: The Golden Eagles will host Rider on Saturday afternoon at 1pm... The match will be on C-93 radio and on the internet at redzonemedia.com...
