EDINBORO TOPS CLARION 78-59

CLARION - Edinboro outscored Clarion 40-22 in the paint and 20-8 off turnovers on its way to a 78-59 win over the homestanding Golden Eagles in PSAC-West men's basketball action Saturday night at Tippin Gym.

Edinboro (14-5 overall, 4-2 PSAC-West) used a 49-25 first-half advantage to take control of the game before Clarion (9-10, 0-6) fought back in the second half outscoring the Fighting Scots 34-29.

One of the highlights for Clarion was senior point guard Ron Hollis scoring the first 11 points of the game for the Golden Eagles. Hollis finished the night with a game-high 15 points, which tied his season high. Fellow senior David Blanks added 11 points including three 3-pointers, while Lonnie Perry had eight points, three rebounds and four blocked shots.

Justin Moore led four Edinboro players in double figures with 14 points while adding five rebounds. Joe Jones had 13 points, all in the first half, while Chris Bess had 12 points and seven rebounds off the bench. Vlad Kovalevsky added 10 points and six rebounds.

Edinboro shot a blistering 58.3 percent (21 of 36) in the first half while building the 24-point halftime advantage. The Fighting Scots cooled down in the second half hitting just 37 percent to finish the game at 49.2 percent. Clarion shot 39.6 percent for the game and was outrebounded 43-31.

The Golden Eagles return to action at 8 p.m. Wednesday when they host Lock Haven, while Edinboro is back in action at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday when it hosts IUP.
