CLARION USES SECOND-HALF RUN TO TOP EDINBORO

CLARION - A 20-3 second-half run keyed an 80-67 Clarion win over visiting Edinboro in PSAC-West women's basketball action Saturday night at Tippin Gym.

Clarion (8-11 overall, 2-4 PSAC-West) trailed 46-45 with just over 11 minutes left but four different Golden Eagles scored during the run including six points from Bethany Koch, five each from Lizzie Suwala and Katrina Greer and four from Sara Pratt to give Clarion a 65-49 lead with 5:58 left.

Edinboro (11-8, 2-4) was able to get back within 10 a couple of times but could never cut the deficit to single digits.

Suwala led four Clarion players in double digits with a game-high 21 points and nine rebounds, while Koch added 13 points and six rebounds. Pratt contributed 14 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, two blocks and four steals off the bench, and Greer chipped in with 12 points and six boards and in the process became the sixth player in school history to top 1,300 career points. She has 1,302. Shaina Smith added eight points and a career-high eight assists.

Samantha Reimer paced Edinboro with 20 points, four rebounds and four steals. She also hit six free throws to give her 418 in her career, an Edinboro career record. Kelcie Hellmer chipped in 10 points, Kelsey Conklin had nine points, 10 rebounds and five assists and Micki Cerchiaro added eight points, six blocked shots, four rebounds and three steals.

Clarion returns to action at 6 p.m. Wednesday when it hosts Lock Haven. Edinboro hosts IUP at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

NOTES - The 80 points were a season high for Clarion ... The Golden Eagles are now 7-2 when they hold their opponents to under 35 percent shooting. Edinboro shot 32.9 percent (24 of 73).
