CLARION - Clarion's Bethany Koch put in a solid all-around game, but it wasn't enough to overcome five Kutztown players in double digits in an 87-69 Golden Bears win over homestanding Clarion 87-69 Sunday afternoon at Tippin Gym.

Koch had 20 points, eight rebounds, six assists, three steals and a blocked shot with all eight of her boards coming on the offensive end.

Three freshman also played well for the Golden Eagles with Joanna Catalano scoring a career high 11 points to go with a career-best nine rebounds while also blocking two shots and getting a steal off the bench. Courtney Healy added eight points, six rebounds, two blocks and a steal, while Jillian Taylor, coming off the bench in the second half, provided a spark with two points and four assists while not committing a turnover.

Kutztown, though, used great shooting to outscore Clarion 49-33 in the second half. The Golden Bears hit 56.3 percent (18 of 32) of their second-half shots with many of them coming after Clarion had rallied from a 12-point first-half deficit to forge a 40-all tie a minute into the second half.

Melissa McQuade led Kutztown with 21 points and nine rebounds, while Chauntelle Schroder added 14 points and 12 rebounds. Rachel Wisemiller chipped in 17 points, Katie Dovey had 15 and Lara Dellegrotti 12.

Katrina Greer contributed 14 points for the Golden Eagles, who trailed 38-36 at the half, and Lizzie Suwala added seven points and six rebounds off the bench.

Clarion (3-7) returns to action at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mansfield. Kutztown improves to 9-2 with the win.
