HUSAM LEADS CLARION OVER NO. COLORADO 20-18

(Hampton, Virginia): Clarion's NCAA Division I Wrestling team participated in the Virginia Duals on Friday (today) and finished with a 1-2 dual meet record.

The Golden Eagles opened with a 44-0 loss to #13 ranked Oklahoma State, then lost 28-9 to #27 Virginia, before posting a scrappy 20-18 come-from-behind win over Northern Colorado. Clarion heavyweight Roman Husam's decision in the final bout led Clarion to the victory.

In defeating Northern Colorado, the Golden Eagles were down 19-4 after 157, before rallying for a 20-18 victory.

Clarion won its final five bouts starting at 165 when Dominic Ross notched an 8-6 win over Tanner Weiks at 165.

Scott Joseph stepped up at 174 and posted a 6-3 decision over Brandon Kammerzell at 174 to narrow the gap to 19-10. Following that bout Northern Colorado was penalized a team point, making the score 18-10.

Freshman Clint Podish posted a 16-2 major decision over Ryan Johnson at 184, and Jamie Luckett won a 5-3 decision against Eric Brennan at 197 to make it 18-17 Northern Colorado.

Clarion heavyweight Roman Husam won the match for the Golden Eagles with a 6-2 decision over Justin Truell. With the bout tied at 1-1 in the third, Husam hit a double leg takedown with 30-seconds left and then turned Truell for two near fall points as time ran out.

In the opener #13 Oklahoma State registered three falls and received a forfeit at 125 in defeating the Golden Eagles 44-0. At 184 Clint Podish lost a close 2-1 to Chris McNeil and Sal Lascari lost a 5-3 decision to #17 Jamal Parks.

Clarion posted three individual wins in its 28-9 loss to Virginia. Hadley Harrison won 7-4 over Jedd Moore at 157, Clint Podish won 7-2 over Rocco Caponi at 184 and Roman Husam decisioned Ebe Nelson 12-6.

CLARION NOTES: Clarion now has a season dual meet record of 4-6 and returns to action next Friday, January 16, with a 7pm match at Edinboro... 125-pounder Jay Ivanco was ill and missed the Virginia Duals ... He is expected to return against Edinboro ... There is a chance that 133-pounder Cameron Moran could be back for Edinboro - or in the near future... He is hoping to return to the practice room this week after missing six-weeks with a hand injury.
