CALIFORNIA - California used a 21-5 run that started just before halftime with a basket and continued at the start of the second half to open up a close game and get a 64-52 win over visiting Clarion in PSAC-West men's basketball action Wednesday at Cal's Hamer Hall.
Clarion (10-12 overall, 1-8 PSAC-West) had cut into a 10-point Vulcan lead in the first half to get within six, 28-22, on a David Blanks 3-pointer with 21 seconds left in the half. But Cal got a basket from Chris Moore with six seconds left in the half to take a 30-22 halftime lead.
The Vulcans (11-10, 4-5) then started the second half on a 19-5 run to build a 22-point lead, and Clarion never got closer than 11 the rest of the way.
Shameel Carty continued his solid play of late for the Golden Eagles with 18 points and 11 rebounds, while Blanks added 14 points.
Kelsey Williams paced Cal with 22 points and six rebounds, while Jerial Nixon had 12 points and seven rebounds. Jesse Brooks chipped in 10 points and five boards.
Clarion returns to action at 8 p.m. Saturday when it hosts Gannon.
