LOCK HAVEN DEFEATS CLARION 27-13

(LOCK HAVEN, PA.): The Golden Eagles won four bouts but it wasn't enough on Saturday night as Lock Haven defeated Clarion 27-13 in NCAA Division I Wrestling.

Held at Thomas Fieldhouse, Clarion finished the regular season with an 8-14 overall record and a 1-5 mark in the EWL. Lock Haven raised its record to 7-9-1 and 2-4 in the EWL.

The match turned in Lock Haven's favor in the first two bouts of the evening. At 125 Clarion's Jay Ivanco led 6-2 in the third period. An escape and two Nick Hyatt takedowns brought him back to a 7-7 tie. In a flurry, Ivanco appeared to have a reversal and maybe back points from an odd position, but the match was stopped with 28-seconds left, Hyatt was awarded a penalty point for not bringing Hyatt to the mat safely, tying the bout 8-8 and sending it into overtime. Another flurry in overtime ended with Ivanco on his back and pinned at 7:30.

At 133 Clarion freshman Cameron Moran and Billy Ashnault were 2-2 in the second when Ashnault caught Moran and pinned him at 4:07.

Sal Lascari gave Clarion its first win at 141 with an 8-3 decision over Zach Kell. Lascari had 3 takedowns in the match.

After Greg Lewis lost 12-6 to Matt Fittery, Clarion's Hadley Harrison posted a major decision over Ollie Cooperwood. Leading 4-1 in the third, Harrison had 2 takedowns, a stall point, and escape and riding time to post his major.

Aaron Ernest defeated Dominic Ross 6-5 at 165 with a third period escape, but the Eagles Scott Joseph came back with a 17-6 major decision over Travis Stem. Joseph had 5 takedowns and a three point near fall to post the win.

Clint Podish had a 3-0 lead n the second period, but tom Kocher rallied and and defeated Podish 7-3 with a 5-point third period.

Jamie Luckett notched a takedown with three seconds left and defeated Ben Hepburn 3-2 at 197, and Quintas McCorkle was pinned by Gabe Murtorff at heavyweight to finish the scoring.

CLARION NOTES: Luckett finished the season at 19-10, Harrison 19-11, Ivanco 17-11 and Podish 18-14. EWL's are back at Lock Haven on March 7th.
