LOCK HAVEN - Lock Haven used a 9-1 second-half run open up a tie game and beat Clarion 72-64 in PSAC-West men's basketball action Wednesday night at Lock Haven.
The game was knotted at 47 following a Paul McQueen free throw for Clarion with 9:06 to play. But Lock Haven's Billy Arre scored nine of the game's next 10 points to give the Bald Eagles a 56-48 lead with 7:05 to play.
Clarion (11-15 overall, 2-11 PSAC-West) was able to cut that lead to 56-53 on a Ron Hollis three with 6:16 left and to 58-55 on an Aaron Trail layup with 4:47 to play, but Lock Haven went on a 6-2 run after the Trail score to make it 64-57 with 3:27 left. A Mike Sherry three with 2:32 left got Clarion back to within four, 64-60, but that was as close as the Golden Eagles would get.
Josh Yanke led Clarion with 15 points and six rebounds, while Hollis also added 15 tallies. David Blanks had 11 points off the bench, while McQueen chipped in 10 points, nine rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Arre led all scorers with 28 points while adding seven rebounds for Lock Haven (5-21, 3-10). Warren Christian had a double-double for the Bald Eagles with 12 points and 10 rebounds, and Eric Brennan also added 12 tallies.
Clarion closes out its season at 3 p.m. Saturday at Edinboro.
