EDINBORO - Ron Hollis and Aaron Trail combined to score 43 points but it wasn't enough to help the Clarion University men's basketball team overcome a balanced effort by Edinboro, as the Fighting Scots got an 88-79 come-from-behind victory over the visiting Golden Eagles Saturday afternoon in Clarion's season finale.
Hollis poured in a season-high 24 points in his last game in a Golden Eagle uniform, while Trail, a freshman, added 19 points. Mike Sherry added 12 for Clarion, and Paul McQueen had 11 off the bench.
But Edinboro (18-9 overall, 8-6 PSAC-West) had five players in double figured including 23 from Joe Jones and 11 points and 17 rebounds from Justin Moore, and the Fighting Scots rallied from an 8-point halftime deficit and a 10-point deficit early in the second half to get the win.
Clarion (11-16, 2-12) led 42-34 at the break and took a 44-34 lead on a Trail jumper 56 seconds into the second half before Edinboro went on a 23-9 run to take a 57-53 lead midway through the second half.
The Golden Eagles rallied to go back ahead a couple of more times and held a 71-70 lead thanks to a Josh Yanke layup with 4:42 to play. Butt Edinboro went on a 9-0 run over the next two-plus minutes to take the lead for good.
