CLARION - A 17-6 run in the final four minutes lifted the Clarion University women's basketball team to an 87-76 win over visiting Lock Haven Wednesday evening at Tippin Gym.
The game was tied at 70 following an old-fashion 3-point play by Lock Haven's Casi Donelan with 4:12 to play, but Bethany Koch answered with an old-fashion 3-point play of her own at the 4:06 mark to give Clarion (9-11 overall, 3-4 PSAC-West) the lead for good.
Katrina Greer and Shaina Smith each scored five points during the run for Clarion including a 3-pointer apiece.
Clarion, which led 47-36 at halftime, had three players record double-doubles. Katrina Greer had 21 points and 12 rebounds, Sara Pratt added 14 points and 14 rebounds and Bethany Koch chipped in 13 points, 11 rebounds, six steals and four assists. Shaina Smith (15 points, 5 assists) and Lizzie Suwala (14 points, 6 rebounds) gave Clarion five players in double digits. Courtney Healy also contributed eight points, five rebounds and three blocked shots.
Lauren Kelshaw led Lock Haven (3-17, 0-7) with a game-high 25 points while adding six rebounds. Katie Kendall added 13 points, Donelan 12 points and six rebounds and Sharay Hall 11 points and seven boards.
Clarion returns to action at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at IUP.
NOTES - Clarion outrebounded Lock Haven 54-34 and had 24 second-chance points to 15 for the Lady Eagles. The Golden Eagles also outscored Lock Haven 40-18 in the paint and 17-15 off of turnovers ... Clarion head coach Gie Parsons was honored at halftime of the men's game with Lock Haven for her 400th win, an achievement she reached in November. Parsons is now 407-322 in her 28th year as a head coach including 297-249 at Clarion, the all-time winningest coach in school history.
