EAGLES SPLIT DH WITH GANNON

CLARION- The Clarion University baseball team won the nightcap of PSAC-West doubleheader with Gannon Friday afternoon 5-3 after dropping the opener to visiting Golden Knights 7-4 Friday at Memorial Field.

In game two, Clarion jumped out to 4-2 lead in the first inning. Andy Petruska and Adam Foltz led off with back to back singles and were plated on a Jason Krimsky single. Krimsky later stole home. Matt Rossi singled and scored on a Sean Zimmerman sacrifice fly.

Clarion tacked on an insurance run in the fifth. Matt Rossi singled and scored on a Kirk Hayes sac fly.

Erik Kempton picked up the win for Clarion pitching five innings giving up two hits and three runs, one earned. Brandon Slater pitched 1 1/3 of scoreless relief giving up one hit and striking out 2, and Chuck Roller picked up the save pitching 2/3 of a scoreless inning striking out two.

Rossi had two hits for the Golden Eagles while Krimsky drove in two runs.

In game one, Clarion rallied for four runs in the seventh before falling 7-4.

Kirk Hayes and Chuck Roller started the inning with back to back pinch-hit singles. Josh Beimel, the pinch runner for Hayes, scored on an Adam Foltz ground out. Ray Pollum, running for Roller, was plated on an Andy Petruska single. Matt Rossi singled and scored along with Petruska on a single by Jason Krimsky.

Gannon jumped out to early getting seven runs off Golden Eagle starter Eric Panko, who went six innings striking out five and walking four. Four of Gannon's runs off Panko came in the first inning.

Matt White had two doubles to lead the Golden Eagles offense.

Clarion (7-14, 2-4 PSAC-West) is back in action Saturday at Gannon.
