CLARION DROPS DH TO COKER

(HARTSVILLE, S.C.): The 2009 Clarion University Baseball team continued on their Spring Trip on Friday and dropped two games at Coker College by scores of 10-4 and 10-7.

In game one, Clarion jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Andy Petruska doubled to left and Matt Rossi doubled to center bringing Petruska home.

Coker scored two in the bottom of the first off starter Erik Kempton to take the lead back, a lead they would never relinquish.

Kempton tossed 3.2 innings and gave up four runs while walking 3 and striking out 2. He was chased in the fourth when Coker scored 3 times to take a 5-1 lead. The Cobra's scored 2 in the fifth and 3 in the sixth to finish their scoring.

Matt White homered for Clarion in the sixth, and Matt Rossi hit a two-run blast I the seventh to account for the Eagle scoring.

Rossi, Petruska and Jeremy Womer all had two hits in the game.

In game two Coker jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second, but Clarion roared back with 2 in the third and 3 in the fourth to jump ahead 5-2.

In the third Clarion loaded the bases and scored two runs on an infield error to tie the game 2-2.

In the fourth Adam Foltz doubled home two runs, then came around to score on a Cobra error and Clarion led 5-2.

Coker tied the game with 3 in the bottom of the fourth off Clarion starter Kevin Keebler. Keebler pitched four innings and yielded 5 runs, only 2 earned, while walking 1.

Coker took the lead for good with 1 in the fifth and 4 in the sixth to lead 10-5.

Jason Krimsky and Josh Beimel had rbi singles in the seventh to bring the Eagles to within 10-7, but the rally fell short.

Matt White pitched the final two innings and took the loss giving up 5 runs, 3 earned, with 1 walk and 1 strikeout.

Clarion had 11 hits in game two with Foltz, Matt White, Sean Zimmerman and Chad White all collecting two hits. The Eagles had 21 hits in the doubleheader.

Clarion falls to 1-7 overall and finishes their Spring trip at Coker on Saturday before returning to Clarion.
