(Hartsville, S.C.): Adam Foltz and Andrew Petruska had two hits apiece and Clarion scored 7 runs, but it wasn't enough as the Golden Eagles suffered an 11-7 loss at Coker College in the final game of its 2009 Spring Baseball Trip.
After Coker took a 2-0 led in the bottom of the first, Clarion bounced back with three runs in the second for a 3-2 advantage.
With two outs in the second and Sean Zimmerman on second, Jim Pernick doubled down the right field line to score Zimmerman. Ken Morgan then homered to center field and Clarion led 3-2.
The Cobra's came back for 3 runs in the bottom of the second and 3 in the third, all credited to starter and loser Eric Panko. They also posted single runs in the fourth, sixth and eighth innings.
Clarion got 1 run back in the fifth when Mat Rossi posted an rbi single, and two in the seventh on an Adam Foltz two-run homer. Tom Briley had an rbi double in the eighth inning, but Coker held on to win 11-7.
Panko went 2.1 innings and yielded 8 runs on 11 hits. John Hynes pitched 2.2 and gave up 1 runs, as did Ray Pollum in one inning of work and Chuck Roller who worked two innings.
Foltz was 2 for 4 with 2 rbi's, Petruska 2 for 3 and Morgan was 1 for 1 with a 2-run homer.
Clarion finishes its Spring Trip with a 1-8 record. Next up for the Eagles will be a trip to Mansfield on March 13th.
