KRIMSKY HELPS CLARION GET DH SPLIT WITH LOCK HAVEN

CLARION – Jason Krimsky went 2-4 with a home run, three runs batted in and two runs scored to help the Golden Eagles earn a split with visiting Lock Haven in PSAC-West baseball action Saturday afternoon at Clarion’s Memorial Field.

The Golden Eagles opened with a bang and never looked back scoring five runs in the bottom of the first en route to a 10-2 win in Game One.  In Game Two, Lock Haven got a three-run homer that propelled them to a 7-5 win over Clarion earning a split of the day’s doubleheader.

In the five-run first inning in the first game, Matt Rossi singled home Adam Foltz after he led off the inning with a double.  Jason Krimsky plated Rossi with a single.  Kirk Hayes followed with a single that scored Matt White, Krimsky would score on an overthrow to third base.  Scott Berkes singled home Hayes to make the score 5-1.

The Golden Eagles added two insurance runs in the second on a Krimsky home run and three more in the third as Berkes, Foltz and Andrew Petruska all scored in the inning. 

Foltz paced the Golden Eagles with three hits, all doubles.  Rossi, Krimsky and Berkes all had two hits apiece.

Chuck Roller picked up the win throwing a complete game giving up two runs, one earned, striking out 10 and walking two.

In Game Two, Lock Haven scored runs in four of the first five innings to take a 7-2 lead after 4 ½ innings before Clarion fought back with a run in the fifth and two more in the seventh. The Golden Eagles then had the tying run at the plate with just one out, but Lock Haven’s Jordan Yohn was able to record the final two outs to preserve the win.

Foltz added another hit while scoring a run and driving home one. Rossi had two more RBIs and was 1-for-3 with a run scored.

Eric Panko took the loss going five innings and allowing seven runs, all earned, on 10 hits and two walks while striking out six.

Clarion is now 11-20 overall and 6-8 in the PSAC-West. The Golden Eagles return to action Monday with a doubleheader at Lock Haven, which is also 6-8 in the PSAC-West. Both teams are three games up in the loss column on IUP for the fourth and final playoff berth awarded to the PSAC-West and are tied in the loss column with Slippery Rock, although The Rock has played four more games, all wins. After Monday’s doubleheader, each team has eight PSAC-West game left with Clarion facing Slippery Rock four times.
