CLARION – Clarion split a season-ending doubleheader with visiting Slippery Rock Saturday afternoon at Memorial Field winning Game One 8-4 and falling in Game Two 15-2.
In the first game, Clarion trailed 3-0 after inning but erased that deficit in the second when Adam Foltz hit a two-out grand slam that platted Matt White, Scott Berkes and Chad White, who had each singled.
Clarion then tacked on three more insurance runs in the fourth, also with two outs. Andrew Petruska had the big hit in the inning with a two-run single and then scored himself on a Matt Rossi singled. The Golden Eagles then added another run in the fifth when Berkes drove in Matt White.
Jon Hynes picked up the win for Clarion pitching a complete game giving up four runs on four hits. He walked four and struck out four.
In Game Two, Slippery Rock scored multiple runs in the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh innings to get the 15-2 victory.
Foltz scored both run for Clarion and had three hits in the game including a double. Berkes and Rossi each added two hits with Rossi driving in both runs. Chuck Roller took the loss giving up 12 runs, 10 earned, on 14 hits and a walk while striking out one.
Clarion finishes the season 13-32 overall and 7-17 in the PSAC-West.
