CLARION – Behind 14 kills and four blocks from Nicole Andrusz, the Clarion University women’s volleyball team started off the 2009 season with a 3-0 win over visiting Ohio Dominican in the first game of the Clarion Golden Eagle Invitation Friday afternoon at Tippin Gym.
Freshman Rebecca Webb added nine kills and four blocks, as the Golden Eagles (1-0) won by the scores of 25-14, 25-22, 25-17.
Clarion got a strong defensive effort from Libero Rhianon Brady (21 digs) and defensive specialist Joy Carey (14 digs), while Amanda Gough ran the offense with 36 assists while contributing a team-high five blocks as well.
The Golden Eagles return to action Saturday with two matches at the tournament. Clarion will host Tiffin at Noon and Point Park at 4 p.m.
