CLARION – The Clarion University women’s volleyball team swept through the season-opening Clarion Golden Eagles Invitational over the weekend going 2-0 Saturday with wins over Tiffin and Point Park to finish the tournament with a perfect 3-0 mark.

The Golden Eagles (3-0) beat Tiffin 3-1 (25-22, 23-25, 25-13, 25-16) in their first match Saturday and then knocked off Point Park 3-1 (25-18, 25-17, 26-28, 25-22) in the nightcap.

Tournament MVP Amanda Gough had 88 set assists in the two matches (41 vs. Tiffin; 47 vs. Point Park) while adding 13 digs (6 vs. Tiffin, 7 vs. Point Park). She also had six blocks and four aces in the Tiffin match.

Kellie Bartman added 28 kills (18 vs. Tiffin) while adding six blocks vs. Tiffin and 10 digs vs. Point Park to join Gough on the All-Tournament team.

Danielle Brunot joined Bartman on offense with 12 kills vs. Tiffin and six vs. Point Park, while Nicole Andrusz had seven kills and six blocks vs. Tiffin and 11 kills and six blocks vs. Point Park. Freshman Rebecca Webb continued her solid early play with eight kills and six blocks vs. Tiffin and seven kills and three stuffs vs. Point Park, while Kaitlyn Anderson added five kills and five blocks vs. Point Park as well.

Libero Rhianon Brady had 42 digs in the two matches, including 22 vs. Tiffin, while Joy Carey added 22 digs, including 12 vs. Point Park. Alison Bolinger also chipped in with six digs vs. Tiffin.

Clarion returns to action Sept. 4-5 at the Shippensburg Classic when it faces Ashland, Glenville State, New Haven and West Virginia State.

NOTES – The win Saturday over Point Park finished off a perfect weekend for Golden Eagle athletic teams. Clarion athletic teams went a perfect 6-0 over the weekend with football beating Fairmont State Thursday, soccer knocking off Seton Hill Thursday and Pitt-Johnstown Saturday and volleyball beating Ohio Dominican Friday before Saturday’s two wins.
