CLARION – Behind an early goal from Jordan Daloisio and a late goal by Cathy Chromanski, the Clarion University women’s soccer team upped its record to 2-0 on the young season with a 2-0 shutout win over visiting Pitt-Johnstown in the home opener at Memorial Stadium Saturday afternoon.
Daloisio tallied her first goal of the season and the second of her career at 12:44 with Jill Miller picking up the assist. The assist gives Miller five points in Clarion’s first two games and moves her into sole possession of third place on the school’s all-time scoring list with 25 points. The junior is just five points behind Ashlie Regazzi’s school-record 30 points (2003-06) and one point behind former teammate Rachel Schmitz (2005-2008) for second place.
Clarion nursed that lead until nearly the 64th minute when Chromanski, a freshman, scored her first career goal on a shot just in front of the net off a feed from fellow freshman Crystal Miller.
Jenna Kulik recorded an easy shutout in goal needing to make zero saves for her second consecutive shutout. It marks just the third time in school history Clarion has shutout opponents in back-to-back games and the first time both shutouts have led to victories – the other two times included a scoreless tie.
Clarion, which is 2-0 for the second time in school history, the other was in 2002, look to go 3-0 for the first time ever when it hosts Lake Erie at 7 p.m. Monday at Memorial Stadium.
NOTES – Miller’s 0.64 points per game in her career is the school record … Kulik, a junior, how has five career shutouts, the second most in school history behind Jessica Reed’s 10 from 2004-07 … Clarion outshot Pitt-Johnstown 9-4 including 5-2 in the first half. Beth Ellen Dibeler led the Golden Eagles with three shots on goal.
