CLARION RALLIES PAST SLIPPERY ROCK IN SECOND HALF

CLARION - The Clarion University women's basketball team outscored Slippery Rock 38-20 in the second half to get its first PSAC-West win of the season 61-48 over The Rock Saturday afternoon at Clarion's Tippin Gym.

The Golden Eagles (10-7 overall, 1-3 PSAC-West) trailed 28-23 at halftime but went on a 20-7 run to start the second half to take control of the game.

Bethany Koch led Clarion with 17 points and seven rebounds, while Lizzie Suwala added 13 points and six rebounds, her 13th straight double-digit contest. Janelle Zabresky chipped in with eight points, a game-high 13 rebounds, two steals and two blocks with Rachel Skolny adding a career-high 12 points, including 8 of 11 from the free-throw line, to go with a career-best five assists. She also had four rebounds and three steals. Courtney Healy chipped in nine points, six rebounds, four steals, two assists and a blocked shot.

Julie Molloy led Slippery Rock (3-14, 0-4) with 11 points and five rebounds. Bethany Caudil and Grace Palucis each added eight points.

The game got off to a slow start with Slippery Rock leading 3-0 at the first media timeout at the 13:45 mark of the first half.

After that, The Rock was able to build a 13-point lead in the first half, 25-12, before Clarion ended the half with an 11-3 run to cut Slippery Rock's lead to five, 28-23, at halftime.

The Golden Eagles then came out on fire to start the second half scoring the first five points of the half to tie the game at 28 before finally taking their first lead of the game at 32-31 on a

Zabresky layup with 15:46 left. That layup started an 8-0 spurt that helped Clarion take control of the game.

Clarion returns to action at 6 p.m. Wednesday when it hosts Mercyhurst, while Slippery Rock hosts Lock Haven at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

NOTES - Skolny's previous high for scoring was five points twice in her career ... Suwala's 13 straight double-digit games are the most in a single-season at Clarion since Katrina Greer scored double figures in 15 straight game during the 2007-08 season.
