KUTZTOWN - Lloyd Harrison scored 23 points, his fourth straight double-digit game, but it wasn't enough to help the Clarion men's basketball team overcome nationally ranked Kutztown with the Golden Eagles dropping a 98-72 decision to the seventh-ranked Golden Bears Sunday afternoon.
Kutztown (9-0) used a 20-4 run in the first half to open up a 55-36 halftime lead and then held the lead in the 20s for much of the second half.
Ryan Washington scored 31 points on 13 of 14 shooting for Kutztown, while Julius Gray added 22 points. Jamar Harrison added 13 points for Clarion (7-4) with Shameel Carty and Paul McQueen each adding 10 tallies. Tamir Johnson chipped in 14 points for Kutztown, while the Golden Bears leading scorer Stephen Dennis was held to 12 points but did dish out six helpers.
Clarion trailed 22-18 seven minutes into the game before Kutztown went on its game-deciding run over the next nine minutes.
Clarion returns to action at 3 p.m. Saturday when it hosts Mansfield.
NOTES - The loss was only Clarion's third to Kutztown since the 1966 season and its first since 2006 ... Clarion is 13-3 vs. the Golden Bears under head coach Ron Righter ... Jamar Harrison has scored in double figures in all 11 of Clarion's games ... Kutztown shot 64.3 percent (36 of 56) for the game, while Clarion shot 42.3 percent (28 of 67).
