EAGLES FALL TO KUTZTOWN

KUTZTOWN - Courtney Healy, Lizzie Suwala and Bethany Koch combined to score 59 points but it wasn't enough to lift the Clarion women's basketball team past Kutztown, as the Golden Bears knocked off the visiting Golden Eagles 88-77 Sunday afternoon.

Healy scored a career-high 21 points on 8 of 10 shooting, while Suwala also added 21 tallies to go with five rebounds and five assists and Koch 17 points and five rebounds for Clarion (7-4). But Kutztown (8-3) had five players reach double digits including a team-high 17 points from Rachel Wisemiller.

Ashley Woods added 16 points for the Golden Bears with Chauntelle Schroeder getting 13 points, Vivian Melvin 12 and Melissa McQuade 11.

Kutztown used a 23-10 run late in the game to break open a 64-all tie and get the win. Clarion had tied the contest at 64 on with 7:56 to play, but the Golden Bears scored the next eight points to take control of the game.

Clarion trailed by two, 38-36, at halftime after overcoming a 25-16 deficit midway through the half.

Rachel Graeff added eight points and six helpers for Clarion, which returns to action Saturday when it hosts Mansfield at 1 p.m.

NOTES -Healy's previous high for points was 14 Monday against Wheeling Jesuit. Prior to that, it was 11 vs. Mercyhurst Feb. 18, 2009 ... Suwala has now scored 20 or more points three times this year and has had 15 or more in nine games including seven straight.
