EAGLES TOP PRINCETON 38-6 - LOSE TO RIDER 25-19

(Lawrenceville, N.J.): Clarion's NCAA Division I Wrestling team notched a 1-1 record on Saturday as the Golden Eagles went on the road and defeated Princeton 38-6, then lost to Rider by a final of 25-19.

Clarion's overall record is now 5-6 overall, while Rider is 9-7.

The Golden Eagles won 8 of 10 matches at Princeton in punishing the Tigers 38-6. The Eagles had four falls in the match including pins by Cameron Moran at 141, James Fleming at 149, Hadley Harrison at 157 and Alex Thomas at 197.

Jay Ivanco got the Eagles on the board with a 12-2 major decision at 133, then Moran pinned Luis Ramos at 6:28 at 141, James Fleming pinned Dan Kolodzik at 2:42 at 149, and Hadley Harrison pinned Danny Scotten at 1:57 of the first period at 157-pounds and Clarion led 22-3

Nick Milano scored a 10-8 decision over Mike Alvarez at 165, Clint Podish notched a 4-1 win over Kurt Brendel at 184 and Alex Thomas pinned Charles Fox at 197 to put the Eagles in front 34-6.

Heayweight Quintas McCorkle finished with a15-7 major decision over Robert Grogan and Clarion finished with a 38-6 win over Princeton.

Traveling to Lawrenceville, N.J., Clarion jumped out to a 16-6 lead over the Broncs, but Rider rallied to split the bouts five each, and get enough bonus points to defeat Clarion 25-19.

Joe Waltko put Clarion in front 6-0 when he pinned Ilyass Elmsaouri at 2:35 at 125-pounds.

Clarion's Jay Ivanco had a 2-1 lead in the second period when he tried to counter a Jimmy Kirchner takedown attempt and was pinned at 2:58 to tie the score after 133.

Clarion won the next three bouts to take a 16-6 lead. Greg Lewis won a 10-1 major decision over Aaron Nestor at 141, then James Fleming won an impressive 7-0 decision over Mike Kessler at 149. Senior Hadley Harrison won an 11-5 decision over Zac Cibula at 157 and the Eagles were ahead 16-6.

Rider's Rob Morrison decisioned Nick Milano 4-1 at 165, and Jim Resnick had a 15-0 technical fall over Steven Cressley at 165 and Rider was within 16-14.

Clarion jumped back in front 19-14 when Clint Podish decisioned Mike Ward 6-2 at 184, but Rider rallied with two big wins.

Tyler Smith pinned Clarion's Alex Thomas at 3:31 at 197 to give Rider a 20-19 lead, then #20 ranked Ed Bordas had a 15-0 technical fall over Quintas McCorkle at heavyweight to end the match.

CLARION NOTES: Harrison was 2-1 on the road trip and now has 91 career wins at Clarion - only 9 short of the magic 100... James Fleming was an impressive 3-0 and raised his record to 21-5. Harrison is ranked #17 and Fleming #19... Clarion will travel to Johnstown and wrestled at UPJ next Friday.
