SHERRY DROPS 19; EAGLES MOVE TO 5-1 IN PSAC-WEST

CLARION - Four Clarion players scored in double digits, as the Golden Eagles won their fifth straight game 82-64 over visiting Edinboro Saturday afternoon at Tippin Gym.

Mike Sherry broke out of a slump by scoring a season-high 19 points on 7 of 11 shooting including 4 of 6 from 3-point range while also dishing out four assists. Lloyd Harrison recorded his 12th straight double-digit performance scoring 17 points despite shooting just 3 of 14 from the floor. He was 11 of 12 from the free-throw line and added six assists, nine rebounds and three steals. It was his sixth straight of five or more assists. Jamar Harrison added 13 points and six boards, and Shameel Carty had 12 points and eight rebounds off the bench.

Clarion (13-6, 5-1 PSAC-West) used 29-5 first-half run to build a 44-28 halftime lead before Edinboro closed to within seven, 52-45, with 14:20 left to play. But the Golden Eagles answered with an 8-3 spurt, including a pair of Sherry three's to get the lead back to double digits. Edinboro (8-11, 2-4) never got closer than nine the rest of the way, and Clarion used a late-game 10-1 run to put the contest away.

Byron Knight led Edinboro with 16 points, Danny Walsh added 11 and Cory Somerville 10. Justin Moore had a game-high 13 rebounds to go with six points.

Clarion returns to action at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Lock Haven, while Edinboro is back in action at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at IUP.

NOTES - Clarion broke a 5-game losing streak to Edinboro with the win ... The Golden Eagles are now 5-1 in the PSAC-West for the first time since starting 7-1 in 2003 ... The game marked the first time Clarion won by double digits for the first time since beating Gannon 70-51 Jan. 16. Since then, the Golden Eagles had won three games by eight points including a pair of 3-point wins and a 2-point victory ... Sherry's previous high for points this season was 17 at Salem International Dec. 11 ... Lloyd Harrison's 11 made free throws are the most by a Clarion player this year since Aaron Trail hit 13 vs. Slippery Rock last season Feb. 22 in overtime. They are the most by a Golden Eagle in regulation since Ricky Henderson also hit 11 Dec. 3, 2006, at Bloomsburg.
