CLARION - Visiting Mansfield used a 24-14 second-half run to break open a close game and get a 73-61 win over Clarion Saturday afternoon at Tippin Gym.
The Mountaineers (8-4) led by three, 47-44, with 9:29 left but broke the game open with a quick 8-3 spurt that was part of the bigger 24-14 run that got the lead up to 13, 71-58, with under a minute to play.
The game was close throughout the first half with Mansfield grabbing a 26-25 lead at halftime before the game continued to go back-and-forth through the first 10 minutes of the second half.
Lloyd Harrison led Clarion with 15 points and five rebounds, while Jamar Harrison had 12 points and five boards and Shameel Carty 11 points and five rebounds.
Ryan Callahan led Mansfield with 20 points including 14 of 18 from the free-throw line. Yuseff Callahan added a double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds, while Anthony Derrison also had a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds while blocking four shots. Chris Pender chipped in with 14 points and five rebounds.
Clarion returns to action at 3 p.m. Sunday when it hosts Bloomsburg. Mansfield is at Gannon at 3 p.m. Sunday.
