CLARION – The Clarion University women's volleyball team will be hosting it annual Breast Cancer Awareness Match at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12, when the Golden Eagles face PSAC-West rival Slippery Rock at Tippin Gym.

 

This is the fourth straight year Clarion's women's volleyball team will be hosting a Breast Cancer Awareness match with this year's proceeds going to the Clarion Hospital Cancer Center, the first time proceeds will be donated locally in Clarion County.

 

“This is a good cause, especially for women,” Clarion's fourth-year head coach Jennifer Harrison said. “With it being so prominent, we wanted to do what we can to help. And we are really excited about being able to help the Clarion Hospital Cancer Center.”

 

As part of the Breast Cancer Awareness Match, the Golden Eagles will wear pink uniform and everyone attending the match is encouraged to wear pink to get into the spirit of raising awareness for breast cancer, according to Harrison.

 

To raise money, the volleyball team is currently selling t-shirts and pink ribbons– the t-shirts and ribbons will be available during this weekend's crossover matches at Tippin Gym Friday and Saturday as well as Tuesday matches and also by calling or e-mailing Harrison (jharrison@clarion.edu; 814-393-1987) and the team will be raffling off several items at Tuesday's night's match and will also be accepting donations.

NOTES – Last year, Clarion raised $1,000 during its Dig Pink Match for the Side-Out Foundation ... Clarion is hosting a PSAC Crossover weekend Friday and Saturday. The Golden Eagles have matches at 7 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. Saturday and 5:30 p.m. Saturday. Other matches not involving Clarion are at 5 p.m. Friday, 12:30 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Saturday … Clarion enters the weekend at 15-2 overall and 7-1 PSAC-West, tied for the fifth-best start in school history after 17 matches … The Golden Eagles were an NCAA Division II Tournament participant last season, the sixth time since 2002 Clarion has qualified for the NCAA's. … More information on the volleyball team as well as all Clarion University athletic teams can be found at www.clariongoldeneagles.com.
