CLARION WRESTLERS DEFEAT L.H. 33-9

(Clarion, Pa.): Clarion seniors Greg Lewis (New Providence) and Hadley Harrison (McKean) had big wins and the Golden Eagles won 8 of 10 bouts as Clarion defeated Lock Haven 33-9 in an NCAA Div. I Wrestling dual meet on Friday night.

Held at Waldo S.Tippin Gymnasium, Clarion finished the season with an 8-8 dual meet record and a 4-2 mark in the Eastern Wrestling League. Lock Haven dropped to 2-9 overall and 1-5 in the EWL.

Lewis raised his season record to 16-10 overall and 10-3 at 141-pounds as he pinned Justin Louden at 2:27 of the match with a cradle. Harrison, ranked #15 in the country at 157, scored a 10-2 major decision over Seth Creasy. The win puts Harrison at 32-7 on the season and gives him a 96-52 career record.

"This was a great way to finish our dual meet season," said Clarion's fourth year head coach Teague Moore. "I'm so happy for Greg and Hadley to finish their home careers the way they did tonight. They have been great leaders for our team. Now its off to EWL's on March 7th."

The match opened at 174 with Steven Cressley posting a 7-3 decision over Derek Caldwell. Cressley used two, first period takedowns to jump out to a 4-1 lead and finished with a takedown with 10-seconds remaining to notch his win.

After LH's Jeremie Cook poste a technical fall over Justin McCrillis at 184, Clarion freshman Alex Thomas put the Golden Eagles in the lead for good, 9-5, with a pin over Harry Turner at 53-seconds.

Clarion heavyweight the upset LH's Dan Craig at heavyweight by a 5-1 margin. McCorkle had a second period takedown to lead 2-1 after two periods. A McCorkle escape early in the third, and a takedown with 2 seconds left in the match sealed the win and gave Clarion a 12-5 lead.

Clarion freshman Joe Waltko posted a 5-3 upset win over Nick Hyatt at 125. Leading 3-1 enter the third period, Waltko used a half nelson for a two-point near fall for a 5-1 lead. Hyatt had an escape and riding time but Waltko got the win.

LH's John Trymbetti won a major decision over Trey Hicks (8-0) at 133, then Clarion won the final 5 bouts. Lewis posted his fall at 141, then freshman James Fleming showed why he is ranked #15 at 149. Fleming had a 20-4 technical fall at 5:04 over Zach Kell at 149. Fleming had four, first period takedowns, then had three near falls in the second, before getting his technical fall with an escape to start the third period.

Harrison posted his fall at 157 to give Clarion a 30-9 lead heading to 165, where feshman Nick Milano notched a 7-5 win over Kevin Dufresne. Milano's takedown with 50-seconds remaining and 1:05 riding time were the difference.

CLARION NOTES: Clarion finishes 8-8 overall and 4-2 in the EWL.... The first winning EWL dual meet record since 2001 when the Eagles were 5-2... Harrison's career win #96 ties him with former All-America Randy Miller for 21st on the all-time list... Harrison is four wins shy of the coveted 100-win plateau ... Fleming has a 26-5 record as a true freshman at 149... The EWL Tournament this year will be held at West Virginia and is scheduled for March 7th.
