CLARION - Shameel Carty made sure the Clarion University men's basketball team would have another home game in 2010.
The junior scored 20 points and grabbed a career-high 19 rebounds to lead the Golden Eagles to a 67-60 come-from-behind win over visiting Lock Haven Wednesday night at Tippin Gym that clinched second place in the PSAC-West for Clarion and a home playoff game Tuesday (March 2).
Clarion trailed 37-26 at halftime but outscored Lock Haven 41-23 in the second half thanks in part to 14 points from Carty.
The Golden Eagles, however, were still down one, 60-59, following a 3-pointer by Eli Hanna with 2:23 left but ended the game on an 8-0 run taking the lead back on a Carty layup off a Paul McQueen with 1:04 to play. After that Clarion was 6 of 6 from the free-throw in the final 25 seconds including the final four by Carty, who was 11 of 12 from the line on the night.
Clarion got back in game with a 17-5 run in the second half that put the Golden Eagles ahead 55-52 with 7:37 left, Clarion's first lead since early in the first half.
In addition to Carty, three other Golden Eagles reached double digits with Jamar Harrison adding 14 points, six rebounds, five assists, four steals and a blocked shot. McQueen added 13 points and nine rebounds while point guard Lloyd Harrison chipped in 10 points despite playing the entire game in foul trouble. Lloyd Harrison picked three fouls in the first half was whistled for his fourth just 15 seconds into the second half. He played all but one minute in the second half.
Eric Brennan led Lock Haven with 16 points, all in the first half, and seven rebounds, while Warren Christian added 15 points and six rebounds with Sharif Bolton adding 11 points. Dalexis Pena chipped in seven points and 10 assists.
Clarion returns to action at 3 p.m. Saturday at Edinboro.
