(Slippery Rock): The Clarion University Baseball team opened its 2010 PSAC-West schedule today with a doubleheader loss at Slippery Rock by scores of 15-0 and 6-0 at the Rock's Scritchfield Park.
Clarion's overall record dropped to 1-7 while the Golden Eagles are 0-2 in the PSAC-West. Slippery Rock is now 8-10 overall and 2-4 in the PSAC-West. Saturday's games will also be at Scritchfield Park as the regularly scheduled games at Slippery Rock. Friday's games were originally scheduled at Clarion, but the field was not playable.
In game 1 Slippery Rock scored single runs in the second, third and fourth innings, then exploded for 11 in the top of the sixth and one more in the seventh to win 15-0. Eric Panko pitched 5.1 innings and gave up 8 runs, all earned, while yielding 8 hits, 3 walks and struck out 5. Brett Whitman pitched one-third of an inning giving up 5 runs, with TJ Anderson one inning and 2 runs, and Chad White one third with no runs.
Clarion had five hits in the opener, with Dane Dobson going 2 for 2 with a double at shortstop, with Jason Krimsky, Sean Zimmerman and Erik Kempton getting singles.
Slippery Rock got two runs each in the first and second innings and won the game 6-0. Gregg Bandzuh started and pitched a complete game for the Golden Eagles. He gave up 6 runs, all learned, 11 hits and 2 walks with 6 strike outs.
Clarion managed three hits in the second game, including Scott Berkes who was 2 for 3 and Erik Kempton who had a single.
The doubleheader on Saturday will also start at 1pm.
