CLARION SOFTBALL DROPS DH TO HUSKIES

(CLARION, PA.): The Clarion University softball team hosted Bloomsburg in a PSAC-Central doubleheader on Sunday with the Huskies sweeping Clarion by final scores of 6-1 and 11-2 at Memorial Stadium.

The Golden Eagles record drops to 2-15 overall and 0-4 in the PSAC-Central, while Bloomsburg is now 23-3 overall and 4-0 in the Central Division.

In game one, Bloomsburg jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a homer by Nikki Shiko on the third pitch of the game, but Clarion bounced right back to tie the game in the bottom of the first.

Corinna Sternthal singled with one out, then Carlie Cook singled with two outs putting runners at first and second. Marissa Myers singled in Sternthal to tie the game 1-1.

The game stayed tied until the top of the fourth when Shiko's two-run homer put the Huskies in front 3-1. Bloomsburg scored two in the sixth and one in the seventh to win 6-1.

Erica Burkey pitched a complete game in the loss for Clarion, giving up 6 runs, 3 earned, 12 hits, 4 walks while striking out one.

In game two Bloomsburg topped the Golden Eagles 11-2, with seven of the runs for the Huskies being unearned on 5 Clarion errors.

Down 5-0 in the bottom of the first, the Eagles Nicole Lindner singled, then scored from third base with two outs on a Husky wild pitch.

After Bloom scored a run in the top of the second, Clarion answered with a run to narrow the score to 6-2. Marissa Myers singled (Kecia Willison ran for Myers), Willison advanced to second on a passed ball, went to third on a single by Nicole Lollo, and then scored on a passed ball.

Bloomsburg scored one in the third, three in the fourth and one in the fifth to win 11-2 in five innings.

Megan Daley took the loss pitching five innings while yielding 11 runs, only 4 earned, on 11 hits, with 3 walks.

Rebecca Lynch also had a double for the Eagles.

Clarion will travel to Mansfield on Tuesday for another PSAC-Central matchup starting at 2:30pm.
