(CLARION, PA.): Clarion's baseball team hosted IUP in a PSAC-West doubleheader on Saturday and the Crimson Hawks swept both games by scores of 14-1 and 12-0 at Memorial Stadium.
The losses drop Clarion to 3-12 overall and 0-14 in the PSAC-West, while Indiana is now 17-18 overall and second in the PSAC-West with an 11-3 mark.
Both games were close in the early going. In game one freshman Luke Prazenica pitched four quality innings and the Eagles only trailed 2-0 heading to the top of the fifth. The Hawks got three in the fifth, including two off Prazenica and one off reliever T.J. Anderson to lead 5-0.
Clarion answered with a run in the bottom of the fifth inning. Joey Harrison doubled, moved to third, and came home on a Tom Briley ground out to second.
IUP answered with five runs in the sixth and four in the seventh to win 14-1.
In game two Brandon Slater got the start and again the Eagles were trailing only 1-0 entering the top of the fourth, when the Hawks scored four unearned runs, helped by two Clarion errors.
Kevin Gnacinski, Kevin Keebler and Jordan Labue all pitched in relief starting in the fifth inning to close the game.
Scott Berkes had two hits in the second game to lead the offense, while Sean Zimmerman had a double.
Clarion travels to IUP for a PSAC-West doubleheader on Sunday starting at 1pm.
