EAGLES FALL IN TWINBILL TO IUP

CLARION - The Clarion University softball team was swept in a PSAC-Central doubleheader by IUP Sunday falling by scores of 10-0 (five innings) and 12-4.

In the first game, Erica Burkey took the loss going five innings and allowing 10 runs, eight earned, on 14 hits and a walk while striking out one. Nicole Lindner and Carlie Cook had singles for Clarion.

Then in the nightcap, IUP raced out to an 8-0 lead after an inning and a half on its way to the 12-4 win. Megan Daley once again took the loss going seven innings and allowing 12 runs, nine earned, on 14 hits and three walks.

In the second game, Clarion scored three times in the second thanks to four hits and a hit batter. Rachelle Yarger and Lindner had RBI singles with Rebecca Lynch adding a run-producing double.

The Golden Eagles also scored a run in the third when Cook was hit by a pitch and scored on a two-out single by Nicole Lollo.

In the second game, Clarion's eight hits came from eight different players including doubles by Lynch and Kacie Nemeth.

The losses drop Clarion to 3-24 overall and 1-11 in the PSAC-Central. The Golden Eagles return to action at 2:30 p.m. Monday when they host Gannon in a non-conference doubleheader.
