EDINBORO - The Clarion University softball team collected 17 hits in a doubleheader at Edinboro including four from Marissa Myers and three each from Kacie Nemeth, Rebecca Lynch and Carlie Cook but it wasn't quite enough to beat the Lady Scots Tuesday afternoon.
Edinboro got a run in the bottom of the sixth of Game One to win 4-3 before using a four-run second and a three-run fourth to take Game Two 8-5.
In the first game, each team scored twice in the first before Edinboro took a 3-2 lead in the second. Clarion tied the game with a run in the fourth before the Lady Scots went ahead for good in the sixth.
Megan Daley took the loss allowing four runs, three earned, on seven hits and three walks while striking out five. Myers was 3-for-3 in the game with an RBI, while Nicole Lindner had a triple and a run scored. Katie Baun also added an RBI.
In the nightcap, Clarion grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the second before Edinboro scored the four spot in the bottom of the inning. The Golden Eagles answered with two in the third to cut the lead to 4-3 before the Lady Scots answered with a run in the bottom of the inning to make it 5-3 and then went ahead 8-3 with the three-run fourth. Clarion clawed back with single runs in the fifth and sixth to set the final score.
Cook was 3-for-4 with a double, a run scored and two RBIs. Nemeth was 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored and an RBI with Lynch going 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Baun added a 2-for-3 game with Rachelle Yarger and Nicole Lollo each chipping in RBIs. Lollo also scored a run, while Myers was 1-for-4 with a double.
Erica Burkey took the loss going six innings and allowing eight runs, seven earned, on 13 hits and three walks.
The losses drop Clarion to 3-28 on the season. The Golden Eagles return to action Friday when it hosts Mansfield in a PSAC-Central doubleheader starting at 2:30 p.m.
