CLARION DROPS A PAIR AT LOCK HAVEN

LOCK HAVEN - The Clarion University softball team battled defending NCAA Division II champion Lock Haven hard for two games but in the end dropped both contests in a PSAC-Central doubleheader Friday at Lock Haven.

The Golden Eagles (2-17 overall, 0-6 PSAC-Central) fell 4-0 in Game One then lost 8-2 in Game Two in a game that was tied at two after four innings.

In the first game, Lock Haven (11-12, 4-4) scored three times in the first off starter Erica Burkey but managed just a single unearned run off reliever Megan Daley, who took over with one out in the first.

Burkey took the loss going 1/3 of an inning and allowing three earned runs on one hit and three walks. Daley allowed six hits and the one unearned run in 5 2/3 innings of work.

Carlie Cook, Randi Pace and Nicole Lollo each had singles with Cook reaching on a walk as well.

In the second game, Lock Haven grabbed a 2-0 lead in the third but Clarion fought back scoring twice in the fourth to tie the score. Cook scored the Golden Eagles first run when Pace got all the way to third on a Lock Haven error, and Pace then scored on a Lollo RBI single.

Lollo was 2-for-3 with the RBI, Rachelle Yarger was also 2-3 with Nicole Lindner adding a 2-for-4 performance.

Daley took the loss going 4 1/3 innings and allowing six runs, four earned, on eight hits and two walks. Burkey finished off going 1 2/3 innings hitless innings. She did walk two and allowed two unearned runs.

Clarion returns to action at 1 p.m. Saturday when it hosts Shippensburg in a non-conference doubleheader.
