CLARION WOMEN FALL TO EDINBORO

CLARION – Raven Jones had 16 points, seven rebounds and five assists and Joanna Catalano tied a career high with 11 points while adding four rebounds, but turnovers proved to be the difference in an 81-56 Clarion loss to visiting Edinboro in PSAC-West women's basketball action Saturday afternoon at Tippin Gym.
 
Thirty-two Clarion turnovers led to 43 Edinboro points, and the Fighting Scots (11-2 overall, 2-0 PSAC-West) used a 33-7 first-half run to build a 44-22 halftime lead before the teams played fairly evenly in the second half.
 
Clarion (4-10, 1-1) led 10-7 in the early going before Edinboro's run allowed the Fighting Scots to take a 40-14 lead with just under six minutes left in the first half.
 
Edinboro eventually led by as many as 32 in the second half before Clarion ended the game on a 9-2 run thanks to four points and an assist by Catalano.
 
Laurel Lindsay led Edinboro with 16 points and five assists, Renee' Brown added 14 points and six rebounds and Kiara Brown 10 points.
 
Courtney Healy added nine points, five rebounds and two steals for Clarion with Lauren Savulchak chipping in seven points and eight rebounds.
 
Clarion returns to action at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Mercyhurst.
 
NOTES – Edinboro shot 40.8 percent from the field (29 of 71) but 8 of 19 from three-point range while Clarion shot 36.4 percent (16 of 44) including 3 of 14 from beyond the arc … Clarion was 21 of 25 from the free-throw line.
