Anthony White at 141,
Bekzod Abdurakhmonov at 165 and
Alex Thomas at 197 posted wins on Sunday but it wasn't enough as the Golden Eagles lost a 33-10 decision to Eastern Michigan in NCAA Division I Wrestling.
Held at W.S. Tippin Gymnasium, the Golden Eagles dropped to 3-4 on the season while Eastern Michigan raised its record to 8-6.
EMU won the first three bouts and led 15-0 when
Anthony White stepped on the mats at 149. White earned a hard-fought 10-7 victory against Corey Phillips. With the score tied 4-4 starting the second, White used an escape and two takedowns to surge to a 9-6 lead after two. His riding time gave White a 10-7 win.
Clarion's eighth ranked
James Fleming sat out the match at 157. Fleming missed three weeks with an injury, wrestled and won on Saturday night against WVU, but was held out for precautionary measures today. His replacement
Kyle Braddock was pinned by Aaron Sulzer at 2:55.
Bekzod Abdurakhmonov continues his quality wrestling while notching a 17-7 major decision over Nick Hendrick at 165. Bekzod had 6 takedowns and a two-point near fall in the win which upped his season record to 18-6.
Clarion's final win came at 197 where
Alex Thomas decisioned Nick Whitenburg 8-4. Whitenburg led 4-1 after the first period. Thomas tied the match with an escape and takedown in the second and a three-point near fall in the third, plus riding time. Thomas now has a 13-8 record this season.
Clarion will travel to Kent State on Friday for a match that will begin at 7 p.m.
