CLARION COMEBACK FALLS SHORT

CLARION – Gannon used a game-closing 14-6 run to hold off a second-half comeback attempt by Clarion and get an 80-66 win over the home-standing Golden Eagles Saturday afternoon at Tippin Gym.
 
Clarion (4-14 overall, 1-5 PSAC-West) had cut a 16-point deficit late in the first half to six, 66-60, with 3:34 to play on a Raven Jones jumper.
 
But Gannon's Caitlyn Lowe answered with a three-pointer 23 seconds later to start an 8-1 Lady Knights spurt that put the game away.
 
Jones had a career-high 24 points and a career-best nine assists. Emma Fickel added 22 points, four rebounds and four steals while hitting five three-pointers. The five threes moved her into sole possession fourth place in school history for freshman made threes with 61. Ann Deibert, meanwhile, recorded her second double-double of the year with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
 
Julie Kleber paced Gannon (9-8, 2-4) with 23 points, Lowe added 21 points and Danielle Ticker nine points and 13 rebounds.
 
Clarion returns to action at 6 p.m. Wednesday at California.
