CLARION – Jamar Harrison had career highs in points and rebounds to lead the Clarion University men's basketball team to a 98-72 win over visiting West Chester in PSAC men's crossover play Monday night at Tippin Gym.
 
Harrison had 33 points and 14 rebounds including 20 points and nine boards in the first half to lead Clarion (8-0) to its eighth straight win.
 
Jamar Harrison's big first half helped the Golden Eagles take a 45-35 halftime lead despite point guard Lloyd Harrison playing only six minutes in the half because of foul trouble.  A half-ending 14-5 run helped Clarion take the 10-point halftime lead.
 
The Golden Eagles then got the lead up to 14, 55-41, early in the second half before West Chester (7-2) got back within seven, 57-50, with 13:16 to play. West Chester was still within 10, 79-69, with 3:57 to play before Clarion ended the game on a 19-3 run thanks to seven points from Lloyd Harrison, who still ended up with 15 points and four assists despite playing just 25 minutes.
 
Mike Sherry added 17 points and hit 5 of 8 three-pointers while going over 900 career points with 909.
 
Bud Teer just missed his fourth straight double-double ending with 10 points and nine rebounds, while forward Paul McQueen played the role of helper with a career-high eight assists to go with six points and six rebounds. Clarion's bench also contributed with Leonard Patterson getting seven points and Denzil Dennison six.
 
Eli Daniel led four West Chester players in double digits with 17 points. Khalif Foster added 12 points, Kehinde Roberts 11 points and six rebounds and Lance McDowell 11 points. Shannon Givens had nine points, eight rebounds and five helpers.
 
Clarion shot a season-best 60 percent (30 of 50) from the floor including 9 of 14 (64.3 percent) from beyond the arc while also going 29 of 35 (82.9 percent) from the line. The Golden Eagles outrebounded West Chester 40-31, and the Golden Rams just 37.1 percent (26 of 70) for the game including 5 of 20 (25 percent) from three-point land.
 
The Golden Eagles, off to their best start since going 11-0 at the start of the 1991-92 season, are back in action at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday when they host Millersville.
 
NOTES – Jamar Harrison has set career highs in points and rebounds in back-to-back games. He had 26 points and tied a career-best with 10 rebounds in a 91-62 win over Thiel Thursday. He has now scored in double figures in 23 straight games and in 35 of his 37 games in a Clarion uniform … Clarion has won eight straight home games for the first time since winning 14 in a row between Feb. 25, 2004, and Feb. 16, 2005. It is the seventh-longest home win streak under 23rd year head coach Ron Righter … Clarion's 8-0 start is tied for the sixth-best start in school history with the 1978-79 team and the 1989-90 team and is tied with the 1990 team as the second-best start under Righter.
