Clarion University's NCAA Division I Wrestling program opens its home dual meet season on Friday, January 7, when the Golden Eagles host Princeton University. Match time at Waldo S. Tippin Gymnasium is set for 6pm.
The match can be heard locally on WWCH-AM (1300) and on the internet at redzonemedia.com with
Rich Herman calling the play by play and former head coach Bob Bubb providing color commentary.
“It will be great to have a home dual in front of our home crowd,” said Clarion's fifth year head coach Teague Moore. “We're still a little banged up from the Midlands, but we hope to be okay for Saturday.”
Clarion is off to a fantastic start to the 2010-11 season. On December 29-30 the Golden Eagles finished 17
th at the Midlands tournament with sophomore
James Fleming taking fourth place at 157-pounds.
On December 21
st Clarion opened EWL action with a 25-21 win at Edinboro. Clarion also won the PSAC Team Title at Bloomsburg on December 4
th, with Clarion scoring 125.5 points and having three individual champions in Fleming,
Bekzod Abdurakhmonov at 165 and
Alex Thomas at 197. Earlier this year the Golden Eagles wrestled at the Claron Knight Point Open, The Oklahoma Invite in Brockport, N.Y., and the Body Bar Invitational hosted by Cornell University.
Last year coach Moore led the Golden Eagles to a 4-2 EWL dual record a year ago, an 8-8 overall dual meet slate, and third place finishes at the PSAC's and EWL's. Always wrestling an extremely competitive D-I schedule, Moore has a dual record of 34-50-1 entering Friday's match.

Princeton, led by fifth year head coach Chris Ayres, comes to Clarion with a record of 2-5 in dual meet action. The Tigers opened the year with a 28-15 loss to Liberty, lost 28-11 to Binghamton, defeated George Mason 29-16, lost 42-0 to #11 Rutgers, lost 30-10 to Rider, defeated Bucknell 18-16 and lost 18-17 to Drexel.
Princeton's lineup is headed by #13 rated Garrett Frey (19-4) at 125, Tony Comunale (6-8) or Adam Krop (12-8) at 133, Zach Bintliff (11-9) at 141, Brandon Rolnick (7-14) at 149, Dan Kolodzik (15-10) at 157, Andy Lowy (0-0) at 165, Ryan Callahan (10-11) at 174, Travis Erdman (11-9) at 184, Dan Santoro (3-8) at 197 and Charles Fox (3-7) at heavyweight.

Kyle Braddock are slated to wrestle… Clarion will have a big road trip Jan. 15-16… Clarion will wrestle at Davidson on Sat. Jan. 15
th at 8am, then move over to Chapel Hill and wrestle North Carolina at 3pm… The Eagles will then drive up to Blacksburg Virginia and battle #13 rated Virginia Tech on Sunday at 4pm before coming back to Clarion… The Eagles next home match is on Jan. 22 against wVU at 7pm, then on Jan. 23
rd against Eastern Michigan at 2pm.
