VOLLEYBALL WINS FIFTH STRAIGHT

The Golden Eagle Volleyball team won it's fifth consecutive game Saturday as they defeated visiting IUP 3-0.

CLARION - Kellie Bartman's 10 kills led Clarion to a sweep of visiting IUP Saturday afternoon.  Bartman fired an impressive 66% (10-15) on the day.  She finished with 3 digs and 2 blocks to compliment her 10 kills.

Clarion looked dominant as they took the first set 25-22, followed it with a 25-12 victory, and finished with a 25-19 score.  Clarion improves to 13-9 on the year and 9-4 in the PSAC.  IUP falls to 9-16 and 3-10 respectively.  

Another strong performance was registered by Amanda Gough, who tallied 35 kills in just two and a half games as Freshman Laura Subject came in midway through the third set.  The Clarion defense looked strong again as Rhianon Brady finished with 21 digs.  The team had 8 blocks compared to 3 for IUP.  The defense held IUP to hitting 10% in set one, 7% in set two, and 6% in set three.

Leading IUP was Danielle Ostendorf with seven kills.  Freshman Brooke Bailey, a Clarion native, started for IUP all three sets and finished with 3 kills and 5 digs.

Clarion travels to Wheeling Jesuit for a match Tuesday at 7 p.m.  They return for three consecutive home games starting next Friday, Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. against PSAC West leader Gannon.  They follow with a match Saturday, Oct. 22 against Mercyhurst at 1 p.m. They return Tuesday, Oct. 25 for the last regular season home game of the year against Slippery Rock at 7 p.m.
