CLARION - The trio of
Kaitlyn Anderson,
Amanda Gough, and reigning PSAC West Player of the Year
Kellie Bartman kept Clarion rolling as they avenged a Sept. 17 loss to Slippery Rock with a 3-0 win Tuesday evening. Anderson and Bartman both tallied 12 kills apiece, while Gough was responsible for 35 assists. Gough now has 3,977 career assists and has three games remaining to become the second player in Clarion history to accumulate 4,000 career assists.
Clarion battled with Slippery Rock before coming out with a 25-20 win in set 1. Set 2 saw Clarion race out to a 22-8 lead before letting Slippery Rock claw their way back to finish with a 25-18 Clarion victory. Set 3 was back and forth as Clarion eventually punched ahead with a 25-18 win.
Defensively, Clarion was led by Senior Libero
Rhianon Brady, who notched 19 digs and is now just 22 shy of holding the school record for career digs. Bartman contributed 16 digs while Gough added 15 and one block. Clarion once again had success with the block, as
Corinne Manley pitched in with six,
Rebecca Webb and Anderson added two apiece.
Clarion finishes the season with three very important road games. They first travel to Edinboro Oct. 28 in a match that could potentially decide the #3 seed in the PSAC West. Next is a match at IUP Nov. 4 and a match at PSAC West leader Cal Nov. 5. Should the Golden Eagles win all three games, they could be the #2 seed in the PSAC West. Cal would need to lose to Gannon Oct. 29 and Clarion Nov. 5 for that scenario to take place.
