MCQUEEN HAS DOUBLE-DOUBLE BUT CLARION FALLS TO KUTZTOWN

KUTZTOWN – Clarion's Paul McQueen had his second strong game, but it wasn't enough as the Golden Eagles fell on the road 96-75 to Kutztown in the PSAC opener for both teams Saturday.
 
McQueen, coming off a 25-point performance Tuesday, had a double-double Saturday with 24 points and 12 rebounds. He added four assists and shot 11 of 17 from the field.
 
But Kutztown used a 19-4 run in the first half to build a 45-29 halftime lead. Clarion shot 31.4 percent in the half, while the Golden Bears shot 53.1 percent in the half.
 
The Golden Eagles (1-3 overall, 0-1 PSAC West) came on strong in the second half shooting 56.3 percent in the half but were still outscored 51-46 in the half.
 
Calvin Edwards added 17 points on 6 of 11 shooting while hitting three 3-pointers for Clarion, while Winfield Willis had 12 points.
 
Five Kutztown (2-1, 1-0 PSAC East) players reached double digits led by 28 points from Devon McBride who hit nine shots including five of the Bears 11 3-pointers.
 
Nate Edwards added 20 points, Micah Fraction added 18 points and seven assists, Eric Brennan had 16 points, seven rebounds and five helpers and Mike John 10 points.
 
Clarion returns to action at 5 p.m. Sunday at East Stroudsburg.
