CALIFORNIA – A late rally by the Clarion University women's volleyball team came up short, and the Golden Eagles lost 3-2 at California Saturday afternoon ending their 10-game PSAC winning streak in the regular-season finale.
Clarion (18-11 overall, 14-5 PSAC West) dropped the first two sets by scores of 25-13 and 25-18 before rallying to knot things up with set wins of 25-17 and 25-18. But the Vulcans claimed the final set 15-13.
With the loss, Clarion knows it will face Edinboro in the opening round of the PSAC Playoffs. What the Golden Eagles won't know until Saturday night is where they will play the Fighting Scots. If Mercyhurst beats Gannon Saturday night, Clarion will host Edinboro Tuesday. If Gannon wins, then Clarion will travel to Edinboro Tuesday.
On Saturday,
Kellie Bartman had a double-double of 14 kills and 20 digs with
Kaitlyn Anderson adding 17 kills and
Hannah Heeter had nine kills and five blocks.
Rebecca Webb chipped in with six kills, eight blocks and five digs.
Amanda Gough ran the offense with 41 set assists and added 13 digs and four blocks, while Rhiannon Brady paced the defense with 25 digs.
