Box Score CLARION – Clarion used a strong inside games from
Ann Deibert and
Courtney Healy to pick up its second straight win with a 69-62 victory over visiting Seton Hill Thursday night at Tippin Gym.
Deibert and Healy combined to score 29 points and pull down nine rebounds for the Golden Eagles (3-6) with Healy scoring a team-high 15 points to go with four rebounds and Deibert adding 14 points and five rebounds.
Healy scored seven of her points during a 13-5 second-half run that turned a two-point deficit, 37-35, into a six-point lead, 48-42, with 12:16 to play. Healy scored the final five points of the run including a three-pointer at the 12:16 mark.
After that run Clarion never trailed, but Seton Hill (3-8) did close within two points four times including on a jumper by Jaleesa Beverly with 2:49 left that made the score 62-60 in favor of Clarion.
Emma Fickel, who added 11 points and four assists, though, hit a three off a pass from
Raven Jones to restore the lead to five, 65-60, with 1:49 to play. It was one of nine assists for Jones, who tied her career high in the category. Jones added a career-high 10 rebounds and also scored eight points and had two steals.
Seton Hill had one last chance when Tiara Stossel scored on a layup at 1:24 to cut the lead to 65-62, but Jones scored the final four points of the game on two free throws and a layup.
Hannah Heeter tied Jones for team-high rebounding honors with 10 boards helping Clarion outrebound Seton Hill 48-33 including 17-13 on the offensive boards. That helped the Golden Eagles outscore the Griffins 20-7 on second-chance points. Heeter added six points, four steals, two assists and a block.
Paige Alviani led all scorers with 23 points for Seton Hill with Stossel adding 18 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals. Anne Marie Olesky chipped in with 10 points. Clare Berenato had a game-high 11 rebounds.
Clarion trailed by five, 18-13, midway through the half before taking a 29-27 halftime lead. Deibert had seven points in the half.
Clarion returns to action Jan. 3 at Pitt-Johnstown.
NOTES – Jones also had nine assists Feb. 16 at Lock Haven. Her previous career high in rebounds was nine vs. Gannon Jan. 29.
