FICKEL TIES SEASON HIGH BUT CLARION FALLS TO WEST VIRGINIA WESLEYAN

Emma Fickel

Box Score CLARION – Clarion Sophomore guard Emma Fickel tied her season high with 18 points, but it wasn't enough to overcome a 30-point effort from West Virginia Wesleyan's Lydia Bridenbaugh as the Golden Eagles fell 85-65 to the Bobcats Wednesday night at Tippin Gym.

Clarion (1-5) was down just six, 47-41 seven minutes into the second half, following a 9-2 run that featured seven points from Fickel before West Virginia Wesleyan (5-2) answered with a 9-2 run of its own to put the lead into double digits for good. Bridenbaugh had five of the nine points during the streak.

Raven Jones added 13 points, five assists, five rebounds and a steal for Clarion, while Ann Deibert had eight points and four rebounds. Hannah Heeter chipped in five points, six rebounds, two assists and two blocked shots off the bench with Courtney Healy scoring five points to go with four rebounds and two blocks in a starting role.

Brittany Maxey added 14 points, seven rebounds and six steals for West Virginia Wesleyan with Danae Hill contributing 13 points and six assists and Jamie Kaufman 12 points and seven rebounds.

The Bobcats used a 12-0 run late in the first half to break open a two-point game, 23-21, and take a 35-23 halftime lead. Turnovers hurt the Golden Eagles in the first half with 16 leading to 14 West Virginia Wesleyan points. Clarion, though, turned the ball over just six times in the second half.

The Golden Eagles return to action at 5:30 p.m. Friday when they host Shippensburg in a PSAC contest. Clarion then hosts Cheyney in another PSAC game at 2 p.m. Saturday.

NOTES – Fickel last scored 18 points Nov. 20 at East Stroudsburg … Healy's two blocks give her 104 in her career, the fifth-best mark in school history. She needs eight more to tie her former teammate Janelle Zabresky for fourth all-time at Clarion.
