CLARION UPSET BID AT EDINBORO FALLS SHORT

EDINBORO – For 20 minutes Saturday afternoon, the Clarion University women's basketball team threw a scare into first-place Edinboro, but the Fighting Scots used a 13-2 run at the start of the second half to get a 68-57 win in PSAC-West women's basketball action at Edinboro's McComb Fieldhouse.  
 
Clarion (6-16 overall, 3-7 PSAC-West), which entered the game riding a two-game win streak, led 17-13 midway through the first half and was down just four, 33-29, at halftime.
 
But Edinboro (19-3, 9-1) used the run at the start of the second half to build the lead to 15 points, and the Fighting Scots never led by fewer than 11 after that.
 
Mackenzie Clark had her best game since the second game of the season scoring 15 points and adding six rebounds, four assists and two steals. Joanna Catalano added 10 points and four rebounds off the bench, Raven Jones had 10 points, four assists, four rebounds and two steals and Courtney Healy added eight points and 10 rebounds.
 
Micki Cerchiaro and Kiara Brown paced Edinboro with 16 points each.
 
Clarion returns to action at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Lock Haven.
 
NOTES – Emma Fickel hit two more three-pointers giving her 71 on the season and moving into sole possession of third place in school history in made three-pointers by a freshmen. She had been tied for third with Rachel Steinbugl coming into the game and is now nine threes back of Amy Coon for second in school history among freshmen … Healy had two more blocked shots and now has 87 in her career, which is good for fifth in school history. Healy averages 1.4 blocks per game in her career, the fourth-best mark at Clarion.
