CLARION FALLS TO GANNON IN SEASON FINALE

ERIE – Gannon used a pair of double-digit first half runs to build a 17-point halftime lead on its way to a 93-58 win over Clarion in the season finale for both PSAC West women's basketball teams Saturday night at Gannon's Hammermill Center.
 
Gannon had runs of 14-2 and 10-0 in the opening 20 minutes to build a 45-28 halftime lead and never looked back.
 
Ann Deibert led Clarion with 15 points, six rebounds and four assists, which tied her season high for helpers. She finishes the season with 156 rebounds, the 12th most by a freshman in school history.
 
Emma Fickel added 12 points on four more 3-pointers giving her 89 threes on the year, the second most by a freshman in Clarion history and 346 points, the fourth most by a freshman in school history. Fickel came into the game averaging 3.4 3-pointers per game, the top mark in the NCAA Division II and the second-best mark in all of NCAA regardless of division.
 
Also for Clarion, Lauren Savulchak had 10 points and one rebound finishing with 155 rebounds, the 13th most by a freshman at Clarion, and Mackenzie Clark chipped in with 10 tallies.
 
Gannon had a pair of players reach 20 points. Julie Kleber had 20 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists with Shannon Thompson adding 22 points. Caitlyn Lowe chipped in with 16 points and Amanda Dacek had 10.
 
Clarion finishes the season 7-19 overall and 4-10 in the PSAC West, while Gannon ends 13-13 overall 5-9 in the PSAC West.
