CLARION 'S JOE WARD 5TH IN 100 FREE/EAGLES FINISH 15TH AT NATIONALS

            (San Antonio, Texas): Clarion's Joseph Ward (So. Johnstown/Westmont Hilltop) finished fifth in the 100 yard freestyle helping the Golden Eagle Men's Swimming and Diving team to a 15th place team finish at the NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships in San Antonio, Texas on Saturday night.
 
            Ward placed fifth in the 100 free with a personal best time of 44.30, topping his previous best time of 44.89 when he won the PSAC 100 free title in February. Ward also placed 11th in the 50 freestyle on Wednesday with a time of 20.33 and was a two-time All-American.
 
            Held at the Palo Alto Natatorium, Drury won the men's competition, Cal San Diego was second and Wayne State finished third. Clarion was the highest finishing PSAC team with 101 points, good for 15th place.
 
            Clarion was led by eleventh year head coach Mark VanDyke, assistant swim coach Brehan Heebner and veteran diving coach Dave Hrovat.

            CLARION NOTES: Clarion diver Logan Pearsall became one of five NCAA Division II Divers who shares the D-II record with 4 individual titles dating back to 1964 during the 2011 Nationals... Pearsall won the three meter and was second on one meter … The four other divers with 4 titles are Clarion's Mike Zucca, Clarion's Shawn Colten, Northern Michigan's Dwight Hoffman, and Patrick Tully of So. Conn. State, along with Pearsall... Clarion diving coach Dave Hrovat has now coached 38 NCAA Champions and 217 All-Americans as the men's and women's head coach at Clarion for 21 years.
